The project aims to propose a residential mode for two generations living under the same roof, however, without any interference with one another unless intended. Communication within the duplex is mediated by controlling the effort needed to access the common area, for instance, adding unnecessary processional circulation or using stairs with different steepness. Therefore, each apartment has one easy and one difficult set of circulation for themselves and common area respectively. Means of circulation is formally expressed on the building’s envelope, with the intention of creating the obscure reading between the volumetric nature of the circulation and the skin condition of the envelope.

The duplex is designed for my parents, and my grandparents. It encourages my family members to live together by minimizing their concern of being interfered.
